Annual Brownfields Job Training All-Grantee Meeting
The Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute (HMTRI), under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, held the Annual Brownfields Job Training All-Grantee Meeting on August 9-10, 2010 in Alexandria, Virginia. This meeting provided a unique opportunity for EPA-funded job training grantees to share a variety of approaches to Brownfields job training with each other and with EPA Regional and Headquarters representatives.
The 120 participants who attended this year's meeting represented: --Current EPA-funded job training programs --Past EPA-funded job training programs that are still active --Headquarters and Regional EPA staff --Contractors who participated in a job placement panel discussion --HMTRI staff
AGENDA DETAILS The agenda topics were identified by the grantees during the registration process, and consisted of both small- and large-group sessions. Mathy Stanislaus, EPA Assistant Administrator, motivated everyone with his opening remarks on Monday evening. Mathy was followed with an open discussion with EPA staff on a variety of job training topics some of which included: --History and future outlook of EPA's Brownfields Initiative --Renovation, Repair, & Painting (RRP) certification --Urban agriculture --Job placement challenges --Green job emphasis
The meeting continued on Tuesday with large-group sessions on: --Fulfilling EPA Grant Requirements by Jim Drummond of EPA HQ --ACRES Training by Ashley Craighill of SRA --Job Development and Placement/Working with Employers/Jobs in the Field, a open panel discussion with contractors and grantees facilitated by Myra Blakely of EPA HQ
A variety of topics were held as facilitated, small-group sessions throughout the day. Facilitators of each session took discussion notes that were compiled and sent to all meeting participants.
