2012 Annual Job Training Grantee Meeting

The Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute (HMTRI), under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, held the Annual Environmental Job Development All-Grantee Meeting on October 1-2, 2012, at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, Virginia. The meeting was a huge success that was attended by a total of 99 participants. The 99 participants represented: 68 grantees 24 EPA representatives 4 HMTRI representatives 3 Other representatives (NIEHS, DOL, SRA) This meeting provided a unique opportunity to share a variety of approaches to Brownfields job training and development. The focus of the meeting was for grantees to exchange information and ideas with each other and with EPA Regional/Headquarters representatives. The goal of the meeting was to assist every grantee to develop their best possible job training program. All meeting participants were provided the following opportunities: Sharing information that included basic program component guidelines necessary for successful completion of a program, initiatives that support and interact with Brownfields activities, key measures and expectations, partnering, and related job development program issues; Sharing project plans and implementation strategies with other grant recipients and EPA project officers; and Sharing information on available technical resources and technical assistance sources. This year’s event again included an optional five-hour OSHA Safety Course prior to the All-Grantee Meeting. This safety course was presented by the Community College Consortium for Health and Safety Training (CCCHST). Participants from out of town had their lodging paid for two nights, and there was no fee to attend. 2013 Annual Job Training Grantee Meeting

The Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute (HMTRI), under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, held the Annual Environmental Job Development All-Grantee Meeting on September 18-19, 2013 at the Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria in Alexandria, VA. This meeting provided a unique opportunity for grantees to share project plans, implementation strategies, technical resources, and best practices with other grant recipients and EPA regional and headquarters representatives. This year’s meeting was attended by 108 participants representing: 68 grantees 7 Professional Learning Community (PLC) members 26 EPA representatives 3 HMTRI representatives 5 Other (U.S. Department of the Interior, NIEHS, SRA International, and CCCHST) The All-Grantee meeting started at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18. After a welcome from HMTRI and brief introductions from all attendees, Mathy Stanislaus and David Lloyd motivated everyone with their opening remarks. On Thursday, the meeting continued with facilitated, open discussions on a variety of topics related to job development and training. The topics were identified by the grantees during the registration process and included: Curriculum and Certifications Leveraging Resources Partnering Students Services and Soft Skills Fulfilling EPA Grant Requirements Student Retention and Tracking Marketing and Outreach Dealing with Special Populations Job Placement and Working with Employers Best Practices Insights and Observations from EPA OSHA Safety Course Participants from out of town had their lodging paid for two nights, and there was no fee to attend. 2014 Annual Job Training Grantee Meeting

The 2014 Annual Environmental Job Development All-Grantee Meeting was held October 22–23 in Alexandria, VA. Among the 126 participants, there were 81 EPA-funded Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training grantees (current and past) and HMTRI Professional Learning Community members, 19 EPA Headquarters representatives, and 15 EPA Regional Coordinators.   This meeting provided a unique opportunity to share a variety of approaches to Brownfields job training and development. The focus of the meeting was for grantees to exchange information and ideas with each other and with EPA Regional/Headquarters representatives. The goal of the meeting was to assist every grantee to develop their best possible job training program. The 2015 Annual Environmental Job Development All-Grantee Meeting was held August 19–20 in Alexandria, VA. Among the 119 participants, there were 86 EPA-funded Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training grantees (current and past) and HMTRI Professional Learning Community members, 12 EPA Headquarters representatives, and 15 EPA Regional Coordinators.
