Welcome to the Brownfields Toolbox

The Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute (HMTRI) has been working with EPA on the Brownfields Initiative since its inception in 1994. Since that time, HMTRI has organized and conducted 21 EPA national Brownfields Job Development workshops attended by nearly 750 stakeholders, as well as eleven annual Job Training All Grantee meetings attended by 660 community stakeholders focusing on improving the effectiveness of job training programs and sharing training and job development methodologies. Most of the 100+ EPA-funded Job Training grantees received training and technical assistance from HMTRI.

The purpose of this Brownfields ToolBox is to provide members of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Brownfields Initiative communities with the knowledge and tools necessary to undertake activities that will maximize environmental job development, education, and employment opportunities for residents living in those communities. The Toolbox was rebuilt and expanded in 2009 to include Professional Learning Community (PLC) resources, Web forums, FAQ's, Announcements, Related Links, a Job Development site map, and much more.
